ROLE IN DAIRYPATHS

ATB coordinates the DairyPathS project. ATB contributes to scenario modelling, ensuring alignment with stakeholder perspectives and Living Lab outcomes. ATB contributes to the project website and the DairyPathS interactive multi-actor online platform, while leading international dissemination through networks such as UNECE, FAO, and IPCC, and coordinating national outreach via the InnoHof Living Lab. Through the German InnoHof Living Lab, ATB engages local stakeholders in the co-design of agroecological scenarios.

University of Milan (UMIL)

ROLE IN DAIRYPATHS

UMIL leads the modelling of agroecological system scenarios, focusing on the farm scale and the assessment of climate change impacts on dairy farming systems. In detail, UMIL evaluates future climate scenarios and agroecological strategies (e.g., crop diversification) by integrating crop and livestock models. The modelling results support the assessment of farm resilience, resource efficiency, and circularity, and contribute to landscape-scale analyses. UMIL also establishes the Italian Living Lab to co-design locally adapted agroecological scenarios.

French National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and Environment (INRAE)

ROLE IN DAIRYPATHS

INRAE leads the multi-criteria sustainability assessment of agroecological system scenarios, in particular the environmental sustainability assessment and the integration of environmental, economic, and social dimensions into a comprehensive sustainability framework. INRAE provides expertise in participatory approaches to support the development and assessment of scenarios, and shares practical experience in agroecological dairy farming and agroforestry through its OasYs Research Infrastructure.

Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU)

ROLE IN DAIRYPATHS

SLU leads the assessment agroecosystem services and biodiversity, developing methods and indicators to assess biodiversity and ecosystem services in dairy farming systems. Its work includes reviewing agroecological interventions, evaluating existing assessment tools, integrating selected indicators into the DairyPathS assessment framework, and applying them to baseline and agroecological scenarios across the Living Labs. SLU also coordinates the Swedish Living Lab.

Aarhus University (AU)

ROLE IN DAIRYPATHS

Aarhus University (AU) primarily contributes to Living Labs and co-design of agroecological system scenarios and Modelling of agroecological system scenarios, drawing on its expertise in agricultural modelling, and stakeholder engagement. In particular, AU applies the Landscape-DNDC model to simulate baseline and agroecological scenarios at the landscape scale. AU also coordinates the Danish Living Lab, working with farmers and other stakeholders to identify and co-design agroecological practices while assessing barriers to their adoption.

Institute for Rural and Regional Research (Ruralis)

ROLE IN DAIRYPATHS

Ruralis contributes to Living Labs and co-design of agroecological system scenarios through the MountainMilk Living Lab in Central Norway, where stakeholders jointly develop and evaluate agroecological solutions for dairy farming in mountain regions. Ruralis also leads the cross-regional monitoring of Living Labs activities in the project. Ruralis also provides the economic modelling of agroecological system scenarios, applying and further developing the FarmDyn bioeconomic farm model and the FARMIND agent-based model.

Eurac Research

ROLE IN DAIRYPATHS

Eurac contributes mainly to the modelling of agroecological system scenarios by supporting scenario development, economic and agent-based modelling, and data harmonization through its expertise. Eurac investigates farmer behaviour, agroecological practices, and regional socioeconomic conditions. Within WP5 (Multi-criteria Sustainability Assessment), Eurac investigates the social drivers and barriers influencing the adoption of agroecological practices and contributes to the development of socio-economic indicators for the DEXi-Dairy framework. In addition, Eurac conducts qualitative interviews with farmers and other experts to assess the socio-economic impacts of agroecological transitions across diverse European dairy farming systems. It also contributes to the project through its Living Lab approach in South Tyrol.

Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV)

ROLE IN DAIRYPATHS

UPV leads dissemination and impact acceleration activities, coordinating communication, stakeholder engagement, and exploitation activities to maximize the project’s scientific, practical, and policy impact. Together with ATB, UPV develops the DairyPathS interactive multi-actor online platform. UPV also coordinates the Spanish Living Lab, engaging regional farmers and stakeholders in the co-design of locally adapted agroecological scenarios.
